Robert A. HAYDEN Jr. was born on March 9, 1932, in Joliet, Illinois to the late Reverend
Robert A. Hayden Sr. and Lucille Rhodes Hayden. Robert was the youngest of six children. He was
preceded in death by his brother Sandy, and his sister’s Mary, Martha, Gloria, Deborah and Marylina.
Robert attended Washington school for his primary education and graduated from Proviso East High
School in Maywood, Illinois. He received his electrical degree from Coyne Electrical School, Chicago,
Illinois in 1961.
At an early age he devoted his life to Christ as his Lord and Savior and accepted to walk in the light of the
father. He was baptized at Second Baptist Church pastored by the late Reverand Robert A. Hayden Sr.
his father. He followed that path to the light and never relinquished his zeal for the word of Christ.
He joined the United States Marine Corps in July of 1950 and served in Western Korea until 1952. He
was injured in battle in August of 1952 and received the Purple Heart, other commendations included
the National Defense, Korean Service medal to name a few. He left active duty in 1954 with the rank of
In July of 1960, he was united in Holy Matrimony to Florida Sanders daughter of Climmie and Malissa
Sanders Second Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois. From this union two children were born a son and a
daughter. The son Robert A Hayden III, and the daughter Gina L Hayden were raised in a Christian
environment with a strong emphasis on being servants for the lord. Robert served faithfully in the
church, which included travel and support for the Young Peoples choir. He was an ordained deacon of
Second Baptist Church. He truly loved the lord as his savior.
Robert began his career in 1963 as a grinder with International Harvester, in Melrose Park, Illinois. His
career covered more than thirty (30) years. He also, owned Hayden Electric where he served Maywood
and the surrounding area for more than forty (40) years with Second Baptist as one of his major clients.
He was known to have a strong personality with a loving and good heart. During his latter years he did
electrical work with his partner David Campbell at their leisure, but always with good cheer and
conversation for all.
Robert never lost sight of his faith or predisposition for sharing wisdom to all who would listen to him.
His pastimes were running errands, electrical work and visiting with family.
His time to be with the Lord came on Sunday, December 3, 2023. He leaves to mourn his passing; a son
Robert III; a daughter Gina; grandson Justin (Heather) and great-grandson Landon, great-granddaughter
Aubrey; a hosting of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
